Chattanooga Urban Design Studio
Architecture 472
Spring 1998
Professor Stroud Watson

The School of Architecture encourages students to go to an off campus programs in the spring semster of the fourth year, and they offer several programs that are very interesting. I chose Stroud Watson's Urban Design Studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Chattanooga was a highly industrialized city that has had a rebirth after a period of economic distress. They have started to rethink how they want their city to be, and have acted upon these thoughts.

We spent the semester studying theories of urban design and developing a master plan for an area south of downtown between Market and Broad Streets. After we established this plan, we then each took a catalyst project to study to test the validity of our master plan.

Also during the semester we somehow found the time to travel to Charleson, Augusta, Atlanta, and Savannah.
